Job Summary
The Shop Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a workshop or maintenance facility in the oil and gas industry. This role ensures that equipment is repaired, maintained, and fabricated to meet operational and safety standards. The Shop Supervisor leads a team of technicians and machinists, coordinates workflow, ensures quality control, and maintains compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Supervision: Manage, train, and supervise a team of technicians, machinists, and support staff, ensuring effective performance and adherence to safety protocols.
Workflow Coordination: Plan and prioritize work orders, ensuring mely comple on of equipment repairs, maintenance, and fabrica on tasks to support field operations.
Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Oversee the inspec on, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, such as pumps, valves, drilling tools, and other mechanical systems.
Quality Control: Ensure all work meets industry standards (e.g., API, ISO) and company specifications, conducting inspections and testing as required.
Inventory and Resource Management: Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and materials, ensuring availability while controlling costs.
Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety standards, including OSHA and industry-specific regulations, and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, and equipment histories. Prepare reports on shop performance, downtime, and productivity.
Equipment and Facility Maintenance: Ensure shop equipment, tools, and facilities are maintained in good working condition and coordinate repairs or upgrades as needed.
Customer and Vendor Coordination: Liaise with internal teams (e.g., field operations, engineering) and external vendors to ensure timely delivery of parts and services.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve shop efficiency, reduce downtime, and implement best practices in maintenance and repair processes.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or associate degree in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in equipment maintenance or repair in the oil and gas industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Skills:
Strong knowledge of oil and gas equipment (e.g., pumps, valves, drilling tools, and rotating equipment).
Proficiency in reading technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
Leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and train staff.
Familiarity with industry standards (e.g., API, ASME, ISO) and safety regulations (e.g., OSHA).
Basic computer skills for inventory management, reporting, and work order systems.
Problem-solving and decision-making skills under tight deadlines.
Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., API, OSHA safety training, or welding certifications) are a plus.
Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a shop environment, including standing for extended periods, lifting heavy objects, and working in potentially hazardous conditions.
